Birth Parent Child Admission (BPCA)
BSSK is authorised to care for children from birth to 6 years old. All children admitted to BSSK are referred through the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). The BPCA program emphasises the birth parent (minor/adult), family members, and children who have been surrendered, abandoned, or are under temporary care. The following interventions are approached with great sensitivity, empathy, patience, and understanding:
- Counselling
- Comprehensive care for the birth mother (including physical, emotional, social, antenatal, and postnatal needs)
- Preserving the birth family or facilitating the child’s release for adoption
- Rehabilitating the birth parent
- Processes managed through the CWC in the best interests of the child
- Legal investigations (e.g., tracing the family of an abandoned child)
BSSK serves as a robust support system for the birth mother and family during their challenging times of need.
Impact to date: Restored 680 children with their birth parents.
